(August 21, 2024) The following resolution was passed by the Council on August 15, 2024, by a vote of 11 to none, with two abstentions:

Whereas Vice President Kamala Harris has been part of the most pro-union and pro-Federal employee Administration in history;

Whereas her opponent issued numerous Executive Orders curtailing Federal employee collective bargaining rights and attempted to politicize the civil service by creating “Schedule F” that would allow the replacement of thousands of career civil servants by political appointees;

Whereas Vice President Harris has Chaired the White House Task Force on Worker Organizing and Empowerment to provide support for worker power, worker organizing, and collective bargaining;

Whereas her opponent politicized weather forecasting and attacked NWS forecasters for issuing accurate forecasts of the track of Hurricane Dorian that differed from his own forecasts;

Whereas the Presidential Transition Project, “Project 2025,” which has been prepared for her opponent’s transition, calls for the commercialization of the National Weather Service and the termination of its parent agency, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration,

Be it resolved that the National Council of the National Weather Service Employees Organization hereby endorses Kamala Devi Harris for the Office of President of the United States and Timothy James Walz for the Office of Vice President of the United States.

If you would like to discuss this endorsement with President Becker, please contact membership@nwseo.org.

Note: NWSEO acknowledges and values the diversity of our members, and we do not wish to alienate anyone on the basis of their political affiliation. However, we feel that given the existential threat posed by Project 2025 and the return of Schedule F as proposed by former President Trump, we must take a stand to defend the future of NWSEO to continue advocating for our members.
